Design of the bike is made in order to achieve maximum comfort while keeping the sporty looks of the bike. It combines the upright seating position of the GS adventure bike while keeping the sportiveness of the S 1000RR version.
It is a bit lighter than the previous generation (around 10 kg – 22 lb), saving the weight in the frame construction, and in the engine department. Also a newer and more optimized engine (in-line 4 cylinder with 121 kW, which is around 165 hp) was fitted in, in order to achieve more power in the mid-range revs.
This bike also comes with 4 riding modes – rain, road, dynamic and dynamic pro. Each preset has fixed parameters for throttle response, engine brake, ABS control and traction control, except the dynamic pro mode, which lets you customize each module individually.
The standard spec BMW S1000 XR has DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), engine drag torque control (MSR), which reduces rear wheel hopping, ABS Pro for safer braking in a pinch situation and while banking, and hill start control. As extra options you get HP Shift Assistant Pro for quick up and down shifting without clutch, electronic cruise control, adaptive turning lights, dynamic ESA, heated grips, center stand and case holder.
